Google finally launched its play for businesses and filled in the gaps about its Android for Work platform strategy.
Google’s aim with this project is to enhance workplace productivity and provide a safer working environment for everybody involved.
The largest news is that there will be two separate environments (personal and work) at the OS level for Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and beyond. But unlike BlackBerry’s secure work environment which has you switch back and forth between profiles, the Android for Work profile is integrated within a user’s personal profile.
The app can deliver secure emails, calendar data, contacts and documents, and it can download work-approved apps. Just like the work profile, IT can also approve the downloadable apps located within the app.
To make all of this work, Google has teamed up with a large number of industry partners such as Citrix, Adobe, Samsung, BlackBerry, Cisco, and many, many more. Google says these partnerships have allowed it to create a set of APIs to bring easier management of Android devices to IT departments, as well as create secure business apps and more secure devices.
